Why Geometry Matters
An air purifier works by pulling dirty room air through its filters and pushing clean air back out. If the intake is blocked by a wall or the output is aimed at the floor, you're recirculating the same small pocket of air, not the whole room. Obstructed airflow can reduce a purifier's effectiveness significantly.

1. Front Intake (Panel / Flat-Face Design)
Air is drawn in from a single large flat face at the front: the most common design in budget and mid-range purifiers.
- Simple, large filter surface area
- Must face the room, not the wall
- Poor choice for corners; needs at least 1–2 feet of clearance

2. Rear Intake / Front Output (Tower Style)
Air enters from the back. Clean air is pushed out the front. Common in slim tower purifiers.
- Works against a wall only with ~6 inches rear clearance
- Pushing it into corners cuts performance significantly

3. 360° Circumferential Intake (Cylindrical)
Air is drawn in from all sides simultaneously. Best air "reach" in a room.
- Ideal for open-plan spaces and centre-room placement
- Needs clearance on all sides, walls cut off intake sections

4. Bottom Intake (Tabletop / Compact)
Air enters from the base. Good for capturing heavier particles that settle near the floor.

Placement Rules That Tie It All Together
Allow at least 18 inches of clearance around all intake vents
Point the output into open space, not toward a wall or curtain
Face the intake toward the pollution source: balcony door, kitchen, high-traffic entry
Never place in corners unless the unit has a front-only intake
Elevated placement (3–5 feet) helps with airborne particles; floor placement captures settled dust
The geometry of your air purifier isn't a cosmetic choice: it's a functional one. Match the intake and output design to your room's layout, dust entry points, and furniture constraints, and you'll get far more out of the same purifier than someone who simply plugs it in and forgets about it.
