Why we built this
India's indoor air market is noisy. There are 100+ purifier models, conflicting CADR, ACH and HEPA claims, AQI numbers that swing between apps, and marketing that quietly promotes ozone-generating technologies (ionisers and plasma) as if they were filtration, alongside UV-C add-ons with little disclosure on actual germicidal performance.
There was no independent, India-focused resource that explained the specs, cited the standards, and let you check things yourself. That gap is what indoorair.guide exists to close.
What's changed since February 2026
The guide started as a recommendation quiz and a short explainer on indoor pollutants. Four months on, it covers most of the decisions an Indian household actually has to make about indoor air.
- Grew from 2 to 28 posts across 10 categories — getting started, choosing a purifier, filter technology, pollutants, ventilation, seasonal challenges, data and standards, humidity and mould, placement, and education.
- Added 13 tools: Find an Air Purifier, Personal IAQ, Compare, CADR Calculator, ACH Calculator, Ventilation Guide, Air Purifier Buying Checklist, Air Purifier Filters, Noise Simulator, Paints, Cleaners & Smells, Check Household Chemicals, Dehumidifier Selector, and the Pollen Season Calendar.
- Published the April 2025 CPCB analysis covering 41 monitoring stations across 16 Indian cities, benchmarked against WHO guidelines.
- Built the Pollution Hub — a hub page plus 16 city spokes — using the False Safety Zone framing to show how NAAQS-clean air can still be well above WHO guidelines.
- Added a Glossary, a Reference Papers library of peer-reviewed work, and expanded the FAQ.
- Ran buying-checklist walkthroughs on purifier ranges from Xiaomi, Dyson, Coway, Philips and Honeywell using only official manufacturer data.

India-focused
AQI sourced from CPCB. Room sizing assumes Indian 9–10 ft ceilings and high-pollution buffers. Brands covered are those actually sold in India.
Source-led
Manufacturer datasheets, peer-reviewed papers, and named standards (EN 1822, ASHRAE 62.1, CPCB NAAQS) — cited inline so you can verify.
Safety-first
We flag ozone-generating technologies (ionisers and plasma) because they can produce ozone as a by-product indoors. We treat UV-C separately: most consumer units use 254 nm lamps that do not produce ozone, but real-world germicidal efficacy depends on dose and contact time, which manufacturers rarely disclose.
