Dyson HushJet™ Purifier Compact (HJ10): Buying Checklist Walkthrough

We ran Dyson's only current India purifier through our 20-point buying checklist using dyson.in data only. Score: 14/20. Promising machine, too many data gaps.

How to use this case study

The Dyson HushJet™ Purifier Compact (HJ10) has been evaluated using the interactive Buying Checklist tool.

If you've been shopping for a Dyson purifier, you may have noticed something odd: most of the old models have quietly vanished from the shelves. What's left is essentially one machine, the HushJet™ Purifier Compact. So we sat down with our 20-point buying checklist and went through dyson.in line by line to figure out whether it's actually worth ₹29,900. You can also compare with our Xiaomi AP4 case study.

What we're looking at

The Dyson HushJet™ Purifier Compact (HJ10) launched in India in early 2026, ₹29,900 in Black/Teal or White/Silver (down from ₹34,900). Same machine, different finish.

The key difference from previous Dyson purifiers is the filter. The older towers used borosilicate Glass HEPA, purely mechanical, holds its efficiency throughout its life. The HushJet uses a 360° electrostatic HEPA filter instead, combining an electrical charge with mechanical filtration. Both approaches are graded against the same EN 1822 / ISO 29463 test standards, but they behave differently over time. It also gets a new quieter air projection system, hence the name. Whether that trade-off makes sense for typical homes in India is one of the things we wanted to understand.

How we scored this

Everything comes straight from dyson.in, product pages, accessories section, testing standards page. If the information isn't there, it's a No or a Partial. Same rule we apply to every brand.

1. Room Sizing

Checklist ItemHJ10Notes
Room volume calculated
1 ACH
Dyson's 1,076 sq.ft. claim is based on just 1 ACH (confirmed in footnotes on dyson.in). At 5 ACH, recommended for moderate to high pollution conditions, effective coverage drops to ~215 sq.ft.
CADR
No CADR
Dyson states it can purify up to 70 L/s (~148 CFM), tested to IEST-RP-CC001.7. However, this isn't a standard CADR rating. Dyson has their own test methodology called Dyson POLAR test.
Purifier slightly oversized (~20–30%)
Can't verify
Based on ~215 sq.ft. effective coverage at 5 ACH, applying a 20–30% oversizing buffer means this purifier is best suited for rooms up to ~165–180 sq.ft.

2. Filters

Checklist ItemHJ10Notes
True HEPA (H13/H14 preferred)
Electrostatic
360° Electrostatic, 99.97% at 0.3 μm (tested to EN1822/ISO29463 by SGS). Different from the Glass HEPA in older Dyson towers; charge component can weaken in high humidity.
Activated carbon filter
Yes
Separate 360° Activated Carbon Gas+Odour Filter. Keeping carbon separate from HEPA is a smart design. Replace it independently when saturated.
Washable pre-filter
Avoid
No washable pre-filter. The electrostatic unit is one sealed cylindrical piece.
Filter replacement cost checked
Not listed yet
Filters shown in the box but not listed on Dyson's accessories page, no price, no 'Add to cart'. Product is new.
Adequate carbon thickness
Undisclosed
Dyson doesn't publish the weight or thickness of the carbon filter. Separate carbon is a good structural choice, but we can't verify adequacy.

3. Sensors & Modes

Checklist ItemHJ10Notes
Real-time PM2.5 display
LCD AQI display
LCD screen shows indoor air quality with colour-coded levels: green (good), yellow (fair), orange (poor), red (very poor), dark red (extremely poor), purple (severe). Detailed data available via MyDyson app.
TVOC sensor
Possibly via app
Not explicitly confirmed on product page. MyDyson app mentions 'track local pollutants with personal reports', may include VOC data via app.
Night / Sleep mode
41 dB max / 24 dB sleep
Sleep mode at 24 dB is excellent for bedrooms, well under the 30 dB threshold we recommend.
Auto mode
Yes
'Senses and reacts automatically to pollutants in your home', confirmed on dyson.in.

4. Performance

Checklist ItemHJ10Notes
Verified CADR (AHAM or independent tests)
No CADR
Dyson states 70 L/s airflow (~148 CFM) at max mode, but doesn't publish this as CADR. They use their proprietary POLAR test instead.
Noise level acceptable
41 dB max / 24 dB sleep
41 dB at max mode and 24 dB in sleep mode. Both figures are strong. The 24 dB sleep mode is genuinely quiet for a bedroom.
Power consumption reasonable
Not published
Wattage not published anywhere on dyson.in, product page, user manual, or otherwise. Can't estimate electricity cost.

5. Usability

Checklist ItemHJ10Notes
Filter change indicator
Yes, via app
Filter life tracking available through the MyDyson app.
App / Wi-Fi connectivity
Yes, app only
MyDyson app with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri support. No physical remote, unlike older Dyson towers.
Replacement filters available in India
Not yet listed
Product is new, filters not yet available on Dyson's accessories page for purchase online.

6. Cost & Service

Checklist ItemHJ10Notes
3-year total cost calculated
Cannot calculate
Machine: ₹29,900. Filter cost: not published. Electricity: unknown (no wattage). TCO can't be calculated from dyson.in right now.
Warranty of 1–2+ years
2 years
2-year warranty confirmed on dyson.in.
Service network in your city
Demo stores
Dyson has demo stores in major metros. Same service model as other Dyson products.

7. Things to Avoid

Checklist ItemHJ10Notes
No negative ioniser
Clear ✓
No ioniser, good.
No UV-C as primary method
Clear ✓
No UV-C, good.
No "HEPA-type" / "HEPA-like" labelling
Honest ✓
Dyson calls it 'Electrostatic'. Test standards referenced: EN1822/ISO29463.
No indoor plants / VOC-only claims
Clear ✓
No such claims, good.

Verdict

Overall Score

16 / 20
Strong on noise and design

Our read on the score

16/20, partly a transparency score. Noise (41 dB max, 24 dB sleep), no ioniser, no UV-C, separate carbon filter, 2-year warranty, auto and night modes: all confirmed and solid. The separate carbon is a practical advantage Dyson's older towers didn't have.

Filter life is tested to GB/T 18801-2022 (50% CADR decline, 12 hrs/day). If it holds in Indian conditions, running costs stay low, even at ~₹7,000 per replacement.

What's still missing: no CADR, and a 1,076 sq.ft. coverage claim based on just 1 ACH. At 5 ACH, that drops to ~215 sq.ft. With a 20–30% oversizing buffer, it's best suited for rooms up to ~165–180 sq.ft.

The 1,076 sq.ft. claim

Dyson's footnote on dyson.in confirms the 1,076 sq.ft. figure is based on 1 ACH, one complete air change per hour. At 5 ACH, the minimum we recommend for high-pollution Indian cities, effective coverage drops to roughly 215 sq.ft. Use our ACH calculator with your actual room dimensions before deciding.

Our take

Worth watching, not enough data yet to buy confidently

Compact form factor, separate carbon filter, strong noise figures (41 dB max, 24 dB sleep), and a 5-year filter life claim that could make the running costs genuinely low. The gaps (no CADR, filters not yet listed) matter because the coverage claim is based on just 1 ACH. Once Dyson lists the filters and publishes pricing, this picture gets a lot clearer.
